Back in 2012, I posted a photo of Daibutsu, the massive Kamakura Buddha, taken by my father decades ago, before he went to Vietnam. Now here’s a very different old Buddha! An unlikely bit of statuary outside a garage, festooned with vines and fall colours, one block away from my downtown Vancouver apartment. I had never noticed it in a decade of living here.
It has also now been destroyed, to make way for a massive landmark development project around the foot of the Granville Street Bridge, the Vancouver House project. The garage was torn down last week. This could well be one of the only nice photos of it that was ever taken!
