Delusional militia menaces weather scientists

Delusional men with guns are menacing … weather scientists? Because they believe weather radar stations are being used as weapons to “poison our skies” (WaPo, no paywall).

Specifically, members of America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are being threatened by a militia known as the “Veterans on Patrol” (actual veterans not included). These are profoundly ignorant people infected by yet another deranged conspiracy theory at the bottom of the slippery slope of anti-intellectual and anti-scientific garbage society has been tobagganing down for the last thirty years.

“NOAA has told its members to be ‘ready for anything’ and not to travel alone” (The Columbian).

I’ve spent most of life consuming fiction about apocalypses followed by post-apocalyptic nightmare scenarios … but maybe pre-apocalyptic nightmares are a more realistic concern. “Raiders” and other clichés of anarchy might be the cause of the collapse of civilization, rather than its effect.

Weather radars are NOT “weather weapons”. They do NOT create tornadoes, hurricanes or any other event. Weather radars are here to detect storms. Weather radars save lives. Without radars, we would all be in a big trouble.

Weird and creepy as this militia bullshit is, the attack on NOAA that actually matters is … coming from the Trump administration (Wikipedia).
