Reviving the personal blog
After being mothballed for most of the last five years, I am actually going to bring this blog back to life. Which is a bit weird. It makes no rational sense, and never did, and I just cannot help myself. I never stopped writing, I just stopped publishing. I ran out of time and heart for that extra bit of oomph that’s required to actually put words out into the world.
And I was partially paralyzed by the dilemma of where and how to publish: the thoroughly unappetizing pros and cons of either running a little blog out on the open Internet and/or resigning myself to the grossness of the social media platforms. For a while there I just “could not even.”
But I was still very “writerly”! That’s baked deep into my nature. I just put it to different usages for a while:
- More substantive correspondence with friends.
- Investment in a large library of personal notes and reference material — sort of like journalling, but more practical.
- And some of my writing and publishing energy went into Project Try Everything.
But now I’m returning to … this place. I don’t know where it’s going, but I don’t need to.
