Tricorder settings

They never showed it on Star Trek, but I’ll bet there were times when the Enterprise crew stood around with their tricorders saying things like “Where do you change lifescan sensitivity again? I just saw those settings a minute ago!” and “Have you tried resetting the network preferences?”
